Social media trends 2017

Over the last few years, social media advertising has become one of the most important tools for social media managers, marketeers & PR pros. But there’s more that needs to be done than just post your articles at the right time and use the appropriate hashtags if you want your brand to be in the social media advertising game. HootSuite, one of the most popular social media managing platforms of the last few years, provided some insights into the social media trends that are important to keep in mind in 2017. duomedia selected three key trends for you:

1. Get all your information on your social media channels

Although traditional websites may seem like the best way to provide your audience with information about your business or brand, social media channels are slowly but surely stepping up their game. According to HootSuite studies, the use of traditional websites will decline even more in 2017. Therefore, making sure your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn & YouTube channels are up-to-date and providing the most valuable information is a must.

2. Invest in social media commerce

Doing business on social media might seem a bit dodgy at first, but numerous brands have already boosted their actions when it comes to buying and selling through their different channels. Instagram e.g. has implemented a button to shop directly in the app, while Facebook allows people to click on the “Buy” call-to-action button on ads and Page posts to purchase products directly from a business, without leaving Facebook. This way, your social media channels can become a newer version of the traditional web shop. Facebook now also offers brands & businesses the option to provide customer support through their chat, taking customer service to a whole new (and much more personal) level. Social media commerce is, however, not suitable for every brand, so make sure to do a few test runs before deciding to start with it.

3. Make it visual with video advertising

2016 was the year video dominated. In 2017, social video advertising will be a key advertising focus. According to HootSuite studies, 70% of marketeers plan to use video in their advertising in the next 12 months. The best video ads are the ones that are short (under 30 seconds) and comprehensive without needing audio. Keeping it simple is the key message here! And of course, as with everything: keep in mind that a satisfied customer is the best endorsement. Make sure to focus on (emotional) customer stories in your video advertising.
